draymond green's take on online basketball punditry
"... that would require people to know the game of basketball, and most people don't"
you could say draymond green is a poster child of the "medium light".
he's the literal embodiment of the athlete that does all the little, underrated, but highly valuable things necessary to win.
i got a good chuckle from one of his responses during a media session the other day:
some notable quotes:
"most people don't [know the game of basketball]"
"most people will never learn the game of basketball"
"they think they know, but yet don't have a clue"
"i enjoy being one of the not-so-many people that actually know the game"
"in order to learn, you have to understand what you don't know, and most people don't understand that they don't know shit so they're just fucked"
i think he's right - not in terms of thinking i'm some sort of expert on basketball myself; i definitely wouldn't put myself in his category - but in terms of having to admit what you don't know in order to learn.
every time i watch a game, i try to notice something that i wouldn't have in the past. it's pretty crazy how much goes on during a basketball game if you just look for it: pre-game gameplans, in-game adjustments, possession-by-possession decisions, instinctual plays, etc.
the purpose of me starting medium lights was to have a place where i can share what i see. i can't catch everything, but perhaps over time it'll become a great resource for myself and others who know what they don't know, want to learn more, and slowly become more knowledgable about the game of basketball.
thanks for joining me on this journey.
