draymond guards five players on one possession
prime draymond was practically omnipresent on defense
draymond green is definitely on the shortlist of best and most versatile team defenders ever, right up there with kevin garnett, ben wallace, and dennis rodman. (bam adebayo might be next in line...)
with all of those guys, it's almost like they can see the game from the broadcast angle. they understand zone schemes, make every rotation, play flawless help defense, and box out and rebound - all while being elite on-ball defenders who can guard all five positions. just a rare blend of intelligence + preparation + instincts + communication skills + athleticism + hustle + competitiveness.
there was this insane ~20-second stretch in game 3 between the golden state warriors and the portland trail blazers in the 2017 nba playoffs where draymond guarded all five blazers in the same possession:
a few interesting things to note:
draymond starts on evan turner, and immediately runs off of turner after ET passes it into the post. so disrespectful but so smart. know your personnel.
after zaza pachulia comes to help steph curry, both steph and dray recognize simultaneously that the ball is going to jusuf nurkic next and both try to get there. they do the same in trying to rotate out to cj mccollum three passes later.
really nice decision by klay thompson to not move too early after patrick mccaw rotates off of damian lillard. by staying in the middle between dame and cj, he stalls dame just long enough for his teammates to help.
dray wants the challenge against both cj and dame, and he calls off steph and klay back to back. what a competitor.
