nicolas batum subs into the game for 1 pass
plus a medium light from giannis and the timberwolves defense
end-of-game lineup management in close games are always cool to watch from a micro-strategy standpoint.
we've seen offense/defense substitutions.
we've seen players put in for rebounding purposes.
we've seen players subbed in for free throw purposes.
quick shout out to sasha vujacic, who always comes to my mind when i think about clutch free throws. the guy went in completely cold and splashed a pair to seal game 7 of the 2010 nba finals:
but have you ever seen a coach put a guy in just for an inbounds pass?
that's what nick nurse did after watching tobias harris turn it over on the baseline two nights ago:
i really enjoyed this one possession from the milwaukee bucks - minnesota timberwolves game the other day:
what a pass from giannis antetokounmpo at the 9 second mark to bobby portis in the corner.
what a defensive possession from the the timberwolves team.
also rudy gobert gets a lot of hate (undeservingly so in my opinion), but i'm not sure how anyone can dispute his impact on the game. that possession doesn't happen without his multiple efforts.
people think of rudy as this cement-footed guy who can only play in drop coverage, gets torched in pick and rolls and on the perimeter, etc. when in reality he's pretty good in space and timing his help and recovery. a few lowlights circulated on social media over the years doesn't change that.
