they want you to believe that the euro step was brought over to the us by european and south american basketball players, and that it was a pretty recent development, like within the last ~30 years or so.
they do it to keep the "american players are more athletic, international players are more skilled" narrative going.
i mean, the move is literally called the "euro" step.

i’ve watched several hours of “old” (pre-1980s) basketball game film. i know for a fact that this portrayal of “history” is false:
that’s julius erving in 1974, archie clark in 1972, and elgin baylor in the early 1960s using the move.
