Really great breakdown - these plays are much harder to process in real time. I’m trying to envision how Jimmy could have kept his matchup with Caruso: before LeBron makes the switch, since there was no room for a threaded pass from Nunn, could Jimmy have stayed outside? Were they banking on the bounce pass inside > easy layup? It does seem like the weak side bundle makes this play only good once or twice a game before the Lakers adjust exactly how you’ve outlined - so I’m curious what the hoped outcome is if it’s not a jimmy layup.

i think miami ran the play perfectly with the guys they had on the court; they can only give a hat-tip to lebron for being aware enough to proactively make that scram switch. there's really only a 1-2 second window to read the situation and make the decision he did.

one way the heat could make this play more effective is to have duncan robinson in there instead of iguodala, with robinson in the herro spot and tyler bringing the ball up in the andre spot. they'd still be bunched up in the corner together, but every defender is coached to never leave robinson regardless of where he is on the floor. iggy being a non-shooter definitely made bron's decision much easier.

I think that as soon as Butler was stranded so far out with AD guarding him, Iguodala should have had immediately set a screen which could have allowed Butler to work against Caruso instead of AD.

no doubt, and that's why andre tried to set another screen when he realized what the situation was. was just a little late.
